TEMPLE UNIVERSITY PEARSON & MCGONIGLE HALLS - ADDITION AND RENOVATION|PHILA., PA

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

UNIVERSITY GYMNASIUM RENOVATIONS AND ADDITIONS

365,000 SF

As part of a complete renovation, two of Temple University's sports and recreation centers, located in the heart of the University's campus, were stripped of their dated concrete facades and replaced with a glass facade system, providing the visual appearance of one unified building. A three-story enclosed atrium with a generous café connect the two buildings. An additional 140,000 SF was added to the existing 225,000 SF program of the new four-story complex and includes practice courts for the University's men’s and women’s basketball teams with corresponding locker rooms. Other spaces include a sports medicine center, weight room, and athletic suites.  The fourth floor includes a four-court gymnasium for recreational use, offices, and multi-purpose spaces.

The highlight of the main entry along North Broad Street is a two-story horizontal glass arcade with a 26-foot climbing wall, retail shops and 2,200 SF fitness mezzanine level.
