Historic Garden Block Rowhouse Reconstruction - Philadelphia, PA
Project type
Residential
Role
Architect and Lead Designer, Freelance for Abitare Design Studio
Status
Built
Located along the Northwest corner of the 2300 block of Madison Square, a garden block listed on the Philadelphia Register of Historic Places, this 3-Bedroom, 3-Bath rowhouse reconstruction was designed to complete the context of this historic block. The original 25-foot-wide end unit rowhouse was demolished at an earlier time and the lot was left vacant for several years. The reconstructed rowhouse provides an open main living level, second floor bedrooms, and is complete with a finished basement for additional living space. Madison Square was constructed in the 1870's to provide housing for Naval officers and their families. The pedestrian block, free of vehicles, provides a gated garden along the center of the block and is maintained by the residents.
