FRANKLIN INSTITUTE ADDITION - NICHOLAS & ATHENA KARABOTS PAVILION | PHILA., PA

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

THE FRANKLIN INSITITUTE - NICOLAS & ATHENA KARABOTS PAVILION

53,000 SF

The Nicolas & Athena Karabots Pavilion has been the largest expansion to the Franklin Institute, which was founded in 1824 and has been housed at its current location since 1934. The expansion showcases the permanent 'Your Brain' exhibition. In addition, the new expansion provides an 8,000 SF traveling exhibit and the exterior showcases a kinetic Shimmer Wall by artist Ned Kahn. The network of over 10,000 five-inch-square clear-anodized aluminum panels hinged at one side allow the external elements to change the look of the facade throughout the day.
